Terms of Service
Plain English
These terms describe what we promise to vendors and couples who use The Wedding Directory, and what we ask in return. The full text below is the binding version; this box is just the friendly summary.
About these Terms
These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of The Wedding Directory at theweddingdirectory.co.za and any subdomains (“the Platform”), operated by The Wedding Directory (“we”, “us”).
By creating an account, listing your business, or otherwise using the Platform, you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Platform.
Accounts & Sign-In
We use passwordless, email-link sign-in. You are responsible for keeping the email address used for sign-in secure and for the activity that takes place under your account. Tell us promptly if you suspect unauthorised access.
You must be at least 18 years old to create an account. Accounts are personal to the natural or juristic person they are registered to and may not be transferred without our written consent.
Vendor Listings
If you list a business on the Platform, you confirm that you are authorised to represent that business and that all information you submit is accurate, current, and not misleading.
You retain ownership of the content you upload (text, photos, logos). By submitting it, you grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, display, reproduce, resize, format, and distribute that content for the purpose of operating the Platform — including marketing the Platform itself (social posts, email newsletters, screenshots of the directory).
We may decline to publish a listing, or remove a published listing, at our discretion — typically because it does not meet our quality threshold, conflicts with these Terms, or is the subject of an unresolved complaint.
Listing Tiers & Fees
Basic listings are free. Paid tiers (Pro and Premium) add features such as priority placement, expanded galleries, and analytics. Pricing and features for each tier are published on our Pricing page.
Paid subscriptions are billed monthly or annually as you choose, in ZAR, via our payment processor. Subscriptions renew automatically; you can cancel from your dashboard at any time, and your tier benefits remain until the end of the current billing period.
Subject to your rights under the Consumer Protection Act, we do not refund partial billing periods.
Content You Submit
You are responsible for the content you submit. You confirm that you own it or have the necessary rights and consents, that it does not infringe anyone's intellectual-property or privacy rights, and that it complies with applicable South African law.
Photographs of identifiable people require their consent if the people are the focal point — for example, posed couple portraits at a wedding you photographed. You may not submit content that depicts minors as the focal point without explicit parental consent.
Reviews & Honest Conduct
Reviews on the Platform must reflect genuine first-hand experiences. You may not write or solicit fake reviews, offer incentives in exchange for reviews, or post reviews of competitors as a couple you are not. Vendors may respond publicly to reviews of their own business in good faith.
We remove reviews we have reason to believe are fake, defamatory, or harassing. We may suspend accounts found to be manipulating reviews — yours or competitors'.
Enquiries & Couple Privacy
When a couple sends you an enquiry through the Platform, you receive their contact details and the contents of their brief solely for the purpose of responding to that enquiry. You may not add their email address to marketing lists without their separate explicit consent, sell their information, or use it for any other purpose. This obligation continues after your account is closed.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to: (a) use the Platform for any unlawful purpose; (b) attempt to access accounts, data, or systems you have no right to; (c) interfere with the Platform's operation or security; (d) scrape or harvest data from the Platform other than as expressly permitted; (e) impersonate any person or business; (f) submit content that is illegal, defamatory, obscene, threatening, or that infringes any third party's rights.
Suspension & Takedown
We may suspend or terminate your account, or remove specific content, if we believe you have breached these Terms, where required by law, or where doing so is necessary to protect the Platform or its users. Where reasonable, we will give you notice and an opportunity to respond before taking action.
If you wish to close your account, you may do so by emailing us; we will close it within a reasonable period, retaining only the minimum personal information our legal obligations require.
Disclaimers
The Platform is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. We do not warrant that the Platform will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any specific business outcome will result from your use of it. We do not verify the accuracy of vendor-supplied content beyond reasonable moderation, and we are not a party to any contract or transaction between a vendor and a couple.
Limitation of Liability
⚠ Please read — this clause limits our liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability arising out of or in connection with these Terms or your use of the Platform is limited to the greater of (i) ZAR 1,000 and (ii) the fees you have paid us for the Platform in the twelve (12) months preceding the event giving rise to the claim. We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, or goodwill.
Nothing in these Terms limits any liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including your rights under the Consumer Protection Act.
Dispute Resolution & Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of South Africa. The parties will attempt in good faith to resolve any dispute by negotiation. If that fails, disputes will be referred to mediation under the rules of the Arbitration Foundation of Southern Africa (AFSA), and if mediation fails, to confidential arbitration under AFSA's rules, with the seat in Port Elizabeth.
Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. The current version and effective date are shown at the top of this page. If we make material changes, we will notify account holders by email and may require you to re-accept the updated Terms before continuing to use the Platform.
