Cape Town was made for saying your vows outside. Within forty minutes of the City Bowl you can marry under a pine on a Noordhoek hill with the Atlantic glittering below, in a milkwood ravine whose roots are older than the city, on a Constantia lawn in front of a heritage manor house, or in a private garden with Table Mountain's back wall behind you. The outdoor wedding venues in Cape Town are as varied as the peninsula itself, and that's exactly why choosing one takes more thought than it first seems.
Because there's a catch. The same landscape that makes your photos sing also brings a summer south-easter that can strip an arch of its flowers in ten minutes, and a winter that can rain for four days straight. The best garden wedding venues in Cape Town are the ones that pair a beautiful outdoor ceremony spot with a sheltered, ready-to-go plan B.
This guide covers ten venues with a genuine outdoor ceremony or reception, grouped by setting: gardens and oak-shaded estates, beach and ocean-view spots, and forest and mountain venues. After that comes the practical part, with the weather, permits for public beaches and parks, golden hour timing and what to ask before you sign. If you want the city's rooftops, museums and hotel ballrooms as well, start with our round-up of the top wedding venues in Cape Town.
Garden wedding venues in Constantia, Kirstenbosch and the Helderberg
These are the classic garden wedding venues around Cape Town. Expect clipped lawns, old trees, heritage buildings and the kind of soft afternoon light that makes everyone look ten years younger. They tend to be more sheltered from the wind than anything on the coast, which matters more than you think.
Steenberg Farm, Constantia
Steenberg is one of the Cape's oldest farms, and its restored manor house is a provincial heritage site. The standout here is the Manor Lawn, a ceremony space right in front of the historic house that takes up to 100 guests. For something smaller, the Villa Lawn beside the heritage villa buildings holds 40. Receptions move to Tryn, the estate restaurant, for up to 50 seated or 100 for a standing canapé-style party, and the Pool House can host a pre- or post-wedding soirée with bubbly between 17:00 and 19:00. Stay over in a Manor House suite with a terrace onto the lawns, or put the family in the three-bedroom villa with its own heated pool. Prices are on enquiry. Best for an elegant, grown-up wedding of 40 to 100 guests who appreciate good wine.
Kirstenbosch Manor, Kirstenbosch National Botanical Garden
If you want a true botanical garden wedding in Cape Town, this is it. Kirstenbosch Manor dates from 1914 and sits on the garden's grounds with views over the mountain, the valley and the protea and fynbos beds that made Kirstenbosch famous. Ceremonies happen in the Manor's own private outdoor garden, and the house specialises in small, intimate banquets for up to 70 guests. Here's what makes it unusual. You can bring your own licensed caterer, or use Moyo or the Kirstenbosch Tea Room, and the kitchen is fully equipped. Tables and chairs are provided, but you supply your own linen and silverware. Bookings and prices go through SANBI's events team. Skip this one if you need space for 120 and a big dance floor. Book it if a small, green, quietly special wedding is the dream.
Erinvale Estate Hotel, Somerset West
Erinvale sits in the heart of the Helderberg, about 45 minutes from the CBD, with indigenous gardens that frame the celebration and the mountains rising behind. The newly renovated Camphor venue holds up to 100 guests with room for a dance floor, and the hotel's 56 rooms mean nobody has to drive home. A honeymoon suite is set aside for the bridal party to get ready in. Unusually for this end of the market, Erinvale publishes its venue hire, at R29,500 for winter dates (April to September 2026) and R38,000 for summer (October 2026 to March 2027), including tables, chairs, standard linen, cutlery, crockery and waiting staff. Best for couples on the Helderberg side or anyone who wants a garden wedding with real price certainty.
Already have Constantia's grandest garden on your list? The Palm Arch ceremony spot at The Cellars-Hohenort, a natural arch of old palms, is one of the loveliest outdoor wedding settings in the city, and we cover it in our Cape Town wedding venues guide.

Beach and ocean-view wedding venues in Cape Town
Want the sea in the background without fighting for space on a public beach? These venues give you ocean views from private lawns, decks and forest clearings. Most are on the Atlantic side of the peninsula, around Noordhoek and Hout Bay.
Cape Point Vineyards, Noordhoek
This is the outdoor ceremony most Cape Town couples secretly want. The estate sits on the slopes of Chapman's Peak above the Noordhoek wetlands, and the Ceremony Lawn under its famous old pine looks out over the vines, a still farm dam and the long white line of Noordhoek Beach. Tradition here is to marry as the afternoon sun drops towards the ocean. The Ballroom seats 200 banquet-style with a dance floor, the Main Deck overlooking the Atlantic takes 100 seated or 180 standing, and the fireplace-warmed South Side seats 60. Cape Point Vineyards publishes four packages, VAT included. The Exclusive runs from R95,000 in low season (May to September) to R130,000 from December to February. The Ballroom package runs R75,000 to R120,000, The South Side R65,000 to R90,000, and The Private, an elopement-sized dining room and deck for up to 15, R8,000 to R15,000. Catering is extra. Two things to know. Outdoors it's background music only with no amplified sound, and the estate has solar and generator backup.
Monkey Valley Resort, Noordhoek
Monkey Valley is tucked into one of the Cape's oldest milkwood forests, looking over 8km of Noordhoek Beach with Chapman's Peak behind. It's the best-value outdoor wedding venue in Cape Town by a distance. The Ravine is a ceremony space deep in the milkwoods, with a wooden arch, a pond-side deck and room for 120 guests, and it hires for just R2,500. For a tiny wedding of up to 20, the Crow's Nest Deck sits in the trees above Long Beach, also R2,500. Receptions go to Tree Tops, a wooden, thatched venue with a big deck and two fireplaces (80 with a dance floor or 100 without), at R25,000 for 2026, with tables, chairs, linen, crockery, fairy lights and staff included. The stone Lapa takes 40 for R18,000. Music winds down from 22:30 and is off at 23:00, and the honeymoon suite is half price for the couple. Best for barefoot, relaxed couples who want forest and sea in one day.
Suikerbossie, Hout Bay
A proud, family-run Hout Bay institution on the saddle between Hout Bay and Llandudno. Ceremonies happen at Hout Bay Cove with the ocean and mountains as your backdrop, pre-drinks and canapés move to the Llandudno Lawn, and the reception follows in the main venue, where glass doors keep the view in play after dark. Suikerbossie is unusually flexible on faith-based catering. Kosher weddings are possible under Beth Din supervision, and the kitchen is halaal friendly with meat from a halaal butcher, though not formally certified because of the licensed bar. Three cottages on the property, including the Sugar Cottage for the wedding night, help with logistics. A minimum guest number applies, and prices come with your quote. Best for sunset ceremonies with a classic Atlantic view.
Sacred Mountain Lodge, Noordhoek
Sacred Mountain answers the question every Cape Town couple should ask, which is what happens when the wind comes up. The private ceremony and reception garden at the base of Chapman's Peak Drive is ringed with tall trees and described by the venue as completely wind protected. If rain is forecast, a 15m by 12m waterproof tent goes up. Noordhoek Beach is two minutes away by car, and beach ceremonies can be arranged before you return to the garden. The package includes exclusive use of the grounds for eight hours, full coordination, furniture, linen, crockery and glassware, and the couple stay the wedding night free with a complimentary first-anniversary return. Bring your own wine or bubbly for R35 corkage a bottle. Capacity and base price are on enquiry. Best for couples who want a beach feel without betting the day on the weather.
Set on an actual beach ceremony? The Bay Hotel holds the City of Cape Town permit for ceremonies on Camps Bay beach itself, and we cover it in our top Cape Town wedding venues round-up.

Forest and mountain wedding venues
For couples who'd rather have pine needles and birdsong than salt spray. These venues sit on the green edges of the city, where the Constantiaberg and the Tygerberg hills do the decorating for you.
The Range, Tokai
The Range is a forest wedding venue hiding in plain sight on the Tokai side of Constantia. The heart of it is a rustic log cabin with a log fireplace, overlooking the Constantia Valley vineyards. It seats 120 with dancing, 140 without, or 200 for cocktails, and you can leave it rough-hewn or drape it for something more formal. Ceremonies can happen in the garden beside the cabin for up to 120 adults, or in the historic Tokai Stone Chapel about 100 metres away, which also seats 120. Behind the cabin, a 2,500m² open arena at the foot of the Constantiaberg is ringed by pine forest and vines, with the venue's own marquee available at an extra cost. Rates are by email. Best for a woodsy, relaxed wedding with a church option on the doorstep.
Silvermist Estate, Constantia Nek
High on the forested saddle of Constantia Nek, Silvermist has mountain and valley views in every direction, and the slopes of Table Mountain National Park all around. Private events and weddings centre on the Kraal, a customisable space a short walk from the boutique hotel, which works for intimate gatherings of 25 to 50, mid-sized weddings of 51 to 80, and larger celebrations of up to 150. The estate is also home to La Colombe, named Africa's best restaurant in 2024, so your rehearsal dinner has a serious option. Suites with fireplaces and balconies, plus self-catering cottages, house the family. Prices on enquiry. Best for couples who want the mountain itself as their venue.
Zevenwacht Wine Estate, Kuils River
On the Cape Town side of the Stellenbosch wine route, Zevenwacht has tree-shaded lawns sloping down to a lake and long views towards Table Mountain and False Bay. The Lapa is the one for forest lovers, an all-weather venue in a wooded glade above the lake for 60 with a dance floor or 70 without (minimum 60 in high season, 40 otherwise). The Alfresco is a thatched, air-conditioned venue right beside the lake for 180 with a dance floor or 200 without, with a minimum of 100 in high season and 80 in mid and low season. Accommodation is on the estate at the Country Inn and vineyard cottages. Prices come in the wedding brochure and quote. Best for bigger weddings that want lake, trees and a proper estate feel within half an hour of the airport.
North of the city, Meerendal's Forest Marquee in Durbanville seats up to 100 among the trees, and we cover it alongside the valley's other wine farms in our guide to the top wedding venues in Durbanville.

Cheap outdoor wedding venues in Cape Town
An outdoor wedding doesn't have to mean a six-figure venue bill. From the list above, Monkey Valley's milkwood Ravine (R2,500 for a ceremony of up to 120) is the clear bargain, and Kirstenbosch Manor lets you bring your own licensed caterer, which can cut costs a lot. Erinvale's published hire fee also makes budgeting easy.
If you're looking for outdoor wedding venues in Cape Town under R5,000, or simply a smaller, cheaper day, our guide to affordable and small wedding venues in the Western Cape is the place to go next. It lists venues with published prices and guest counts from about 20 upwards. For styling a low-key outdoor day, our ideas for a garden party wedding show how to make lawns, long tables and a few strings of bunting feel deliberate rather than cheap.
Cape Town weather and your outdoor wedding
Every outdoor wedding in Cape Town is planned around two forces, the south-easter and the winter rain. Get to know both before you choose a date or a ceremony time.
The summer south-easter
From roughly October to March, the south-easter (locals call it the Cape Doctor) is the city's defining summer wind. It often builds through the day and can blow hardest in the afternoon, which is exactly when most ceremonies happen. Exposed clifftops, beaches and open hillsides feel it most. Tree-lined gardens, valleys and the leeward sides of the mountain feel it least. Ask every venue where its sheltered spot is, and go and stand in it on a windy afternoon before you sign.
Wet winters
Cape Town has a Mediterranean climate, so most of its rain falls between May and August. Winter weddings are cheaper and the green is spectacular, but plan the whole day so that it works indoors and treat any outdoor moment as a bonus.
The best months for an outdoor wedding
Our pick is March and April. The days are still warm, the light turns golden earlier, and the wind usually eases off. Late October and November are a close second, with spring flowers and long evenings, though the wind is often stronger. December to February is peak season. It's hot, bright and fully booked, with top prices to match.
Always have a plan B
- Wet-weather plan: know exactly which room or covered area the ceremony moves to, and when the call gets made (usually that morning, after checking the forecast).
- Wind plan: a sheltered corner, heavier décor, weighted arches and no loose petals or light paper on tables.
- Marquee hire: if your venue doesn't have a covered fallback, budget for a stretch tent or marquee and ask whether the venue has a preferred supplier and a flat area to pitch it on.
- Power: check what backup the venue has for lighting, sound and the kitchen if the grid fails.
Sun, shade and golden hour
Cape Town's summer sun sets late, close to 8pm in December and closer to 5:45pm in June. For the softest light, schedule your ceremony so that portraits fall in the hour before sunset. Remember that a west-facing ceremony on the Atlantic side puts the sun straight into your guests' eyes in the late afternoon. Face the couple towards the sun or pick a spot with tree shade. Put sunscreen, water stations and a basket of fans or parasols at the entrance, and seat older relatives in the shade first. Once the sun goes down, plan your lighting early. Our guide to outdoor wedding lighting ideas covers festoons, lanterns and candles that survive a breeze.
Permits for beach and park weddings in Cape Town
A private venue handles its own permissions. The moment you move onto public land, though, it's on you.
- City parks and public open spaces: the City of Cape Town has reminded residents that weddings in public parks need permission first. Applications for events on public open space go to the Recreation and Parks Department, with low-impact events approved through the local subcouncil and bigger ones handled by the Film and Events Office. Speak to the park's facility manager before you apply, and email RP.Enquiries@capetown.gov.za for the form.
- Larger events and beaches: the City's event permit page asks for applications at least 21 days ahead for events of 200 to 2,000 people. Ask the Events Office (021 417 4035) what applies to a smaller beach ceremony on your chosen beach before you print invitations.
- Table Mountain National Park: ceremonies and functions anywhere in the park, including many beaches and viewpoints on the peninsula, need a permit from SANParks' film and event office. Small events of up to 100 people take about 15 working days to process once all paperwork is in. Events are not allowed in the park between 15 December and 15 January. Details and forms are on the SANParks events page.
A permit doesn't give you exclusive use of a public beach. Expect dog walkers and kite surfers in the background, and plan accordingly.
Before you book an outdoor venue
- See it at your ceremony time. Visit on a weekday afternoon in the same season as your wedding to see where the sun and wind really are.
- Ask about sound rules. Several outdoor venues limit amplified music outside or set an 11pm cut-off. Cape Point Vineyards allows background music only outdoors.
- Check guest travel. Noordhoek and Hout Bay are 35 to 45 minutes from the CBD, and Chapman's Peak Drive can close in bad weather. Somerset West is about 45 minutes away.
- Sort accommodation early. Venues with rooms on site (Steenberg, Erinvale, Monkey Valley, Silvermist, Zevenwacht) make life easier for out-of-town guests.
- Get the plan B in writing. Ask whether the indoor fallback is included in the price and kept free for you all day.
Our list of questions to ask your wedding venue covers the rest. When you're ready to compare, browse every Cape Town wedding venue on The Wedding Directory, or find florists, marquee suppliers and photographers in the full vendor directory.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best outdoor wedding venue in Cape Town?
For an ocean view, Cape Point Vineyards' Ceremony Lawn in Noordhoek is hard to beat. For a classic garden, Steenberg's Manor Lawn in Constantia is our pick, and for forest, Monkey Valley's milkwood Ravine is the standout.
When is the best time of year for an outdoor wedding in Cape Town?
March and April usually bring warm days and lighter wind. October and November are lovely too, but windier. Most rain falls from May to August.
Do you need a permit to get married on a beach in Cape Town?
Yes, for public land you need permission from the City of Cape Town, or from SANParks if the beach falls inside Table Mountain National Park. Apply weeks ahead, and note that SANParks allows no events from 15 December to 15 January.
Are there cheap outdoor wedding venues in Cape Town?
Yes. Monkey Valley Resort in Noordhoek hires its forest ceremony space for R2,500, and Kirstenbosch Manor lets you bring your own licensed caterer. Our affordable Western Cape venues guide lists more options with published prices.
Which outdoor venues in Cape Town are sheltered from the wind?
Sacred Mountain Lodge in Noordhoek describes its garden as completely wind protected. Tree-lined Constantia venues such as Steenberg and The Range, and Zevenwacht's wooded Lapa, are generally more sheltered than beach or clifftop spots.
What should our wet-weather plan be?
Choose a venue with an indoor or covered space that's reserved for you all day, or budget for a marquee or stretch tent. Agree in advance who makes the call and by what time on the morning of the wedding.
