Ghazal
You with the dark burly hair and the breathtaking eyes, your inquiring glance that leaves me undone.
Eyes that pierce and then withdraw like a blood-stained sword, eyes with dagger lashes! Zealots, you are mistaken - this is heaven.
Never mind those making promises of the afterlife: join us now, righteous friends, in this intoxication.
Never mind the path to the Kaabah: sanctity resides in the heart. Squander your life, suffer! God is right here.
Oh excruciating face! Continual light! This is where I am thrilled, here, right here.
There is no book anywhere on the matter. Only as soon as I see you do I understand.
If you wish to offer your beauty to God, give Zebunisso a taste. Awaiting the tiniest morsel, she is right here.

Eyes of a Beautiful Women
Your eyes are captivating Your eyes are electrifying It looks beyond the skin And permeates the system It sees beyond the surface And mingles with the hidden treasures
The heat of your eyes is overwhelming They are hotter than the rays of the sun They shine with glitters And dims to soothe the nerves
The cloud of your eyes envelop humanity And make them like the stars of the sky As they shine upon the world And turn your eyes into precious gems
Ralph Maduike, Nigerian-born poet.
My Wishes
If I could have my wishes, If wishes did come true; I would wish for happiness, And a long full life for you.
I would wish for laughter, And fill your life with song; Then ask for peace and joy and love, To follow you all day long.
Then I would ask for peaceful rest, To visit you at night; And that your every morning, Dawn shimmering and bright.
I would ask for nothing, To give back to myself; As long as you are happy, I want for nothing else.
For just to see contentment, On your face and know you’re fine; Would truly satisfy me, And bring joy to this heart of mine.
If I could have my wishes, If wishes did come true; I’d wish for the sun and the moon and the stars, And I’d give them all to you.

In Sunshine or in Shadow
In sunshine or in shadow Your love sets me aglow In perfect calm or raging storm Your love keeps me warm In times of drought or flood Your passion warms my blood In summer bright or winter dark You are always in my heart
Paul Curtis (born 1956), English poet.
My True Love Hath My Heart and I Have His
My true love hath my heart and I have his, By just exchange one for another given; I hold his dear, and mine he cannot miss, There never was a better bargain driven. My true love has my heart and I have his.
His heart in me keeps him and me in one, My heart in him his thoughts and senses guides; He loves my heart, for once it was his own, I cherish his, because in me it bides. My true love hath my heart and I have his.
Phillip Sydney (1554-1586), English poet, courtier and soldier. This poem is a simple declaration of true love.
