Stellenbosch has a reputation for grand estates and grand invoices, and some of it is earned. But the affordable wedding venues in Stellenbosch are real, and several of them publish their prices, which is rare in the Winelands. Look past the famous gates and you'll find a family farm on the Polkadraai Hills charging R800 a head with the venue and a three-course dinner included, a Bottelary valley hall that hires out for around R20,000 in winter, and small barns where 60 guests feel like a full house rather than an empty one.

This guide starts with those budget-friendly and good-value venues, grouped by how they charge, then moves on to the big-name estates so you can see exactly what the extra money buys. All eleven are working wedding venues in Stellenbosch and its valleys, from Jonkershoek and Banhoek to Bottelary, Polkadraai, Lynedoch and the Stellenbosch Kloof. Where a venue publishes its rates we give them. Where it doesn't, it quotes on enquiry, and you should ask for a full quote for your date and guest count.

If your budget stretches beyond one town, our guide to affordable and small wedding venues in the Western Cape covers cheaper options from the Swartland to the West Coast, and our wedding venue cost guide for South Africa explains what a fair price per head looks like in 2026.

Affordable wedding venues in Stellenbosch with published prices

These four tell you what things cost before you drive out for a viewing. That alone saves weeks of email tennis.

Skilpadvlei Wine Farm

Skilpadvlei has been in the Joubert family since 1917, and it shows in the unfussy, generous way it runs weddings. The farm sits on the M12 Polkadraai Road, about 9km from town, with vineyards running up to the hills and a dam that makes a quiet, private spot for the ceremony. Receptions happen in the ML Joubert venue, a light-filled hall with warm wood and vineyard views.

The standout is the pricing. The 2026 wedding package is R800 per person and includes the venue for the full day, a three-course menu, waiters, barmen, ice, tables, white linen, crockery, cutlery and glassware. A ceremony on the Manor House lawn or at the dam adds R50 per person. Better still, you may bring your own drinks for pre-drinks and the tables with no corkage fee, which on a Stellenbosch wine bill is a serious saving. The menu leans hearty Cape farm food, think biltong soup, lamb pie and malva pudding.

The hall seats 180 without a dance floor or 150 with one, and there's a backup generator. In peak season (October to April) the guest minimum is 80 on a Saturday, 60 on a Friday and 50 from Sunday to Thursday, so very small weddings will pay for empty seats. There are seven self-catering cottages and 11 B&B rooms on the farm. It suits couples with 80 to 150 guests who want a full wedding at a price they can plan around, and you can see more on the Skilpadvlei weddings page.

Vredenheim (Plaaslik)

Vredenheim, on the R310 at Vlottenburg, has been hosting weddings through its Plaaslik team for more than twelve years, and it does glamour on a sensible budget. There are two rooms. The Hall takes 60 to 120 guests and has a crystal chandelier, mosaic pillars and an antique bar that once served as the ticket counter at Cape Town station. Upstairs, the Loft holds 80 to 300 under a bamboo-lined ceiling, with a slate-and-oak bar and folding doors onto a balcony. There's a lift, which the grandparents will appreciate.

Venue hire is published by season and day. For an afternoon-and-evening wedding, hire runs from about R24,900 on a winter weekday up to around R54,000 for a peak-season Saturday in the bigger Loft. Food and drinks are on top, with wedding menus from about R495 to R797 per person, and a garden ceremony adds R30 per guest. Low season is June to August, and Monday to Thursday is cheapest. A full backup generator is included. It suits big families on a budget who still want a bit of sparkle.

Eikenhof Estate

Eikenhof sits 3km up Fischer Road off Bottelary Road, between Stellenbosch, Brackenfell and Kuils River, which makes it easy for guests coming from Cape Town's northern suburbs. Ceremonies happen under the Pergola, a timber canopy with vines, stone gabion walls and white drapery. The reception moves next door to Cap Classique, an air-conditioned room with chandeliers and a fireplace that seats up to 120.

Eikenhof publishes straight venue-hire rates, VAT included. Its most recent published figures were R20,000 midweek and R23,000 from Friday to Sunday for May to August 2025, and R23,000 to R26,000 in the 2024/25 peak season, so expect 2026 rates to be a little higher. The fireplace and backup power make it one of the better winter choices in this guide. There are two guest villas (four and five bedrooms) for the wedding party. Skip it if you want a big wine-estate name on the invitation. Book it if you want a warm, well-run room for 120 at a fair hire fee.

Devonvale Golf & Wine Estate

Devonvale is a golf and wine estate in the Bottelary valley, about five minutes from town, with fairways, vineyards and mountain views in every direction. It's not the most romantic name on this list. It may be the most practical, because it lays out its costs in a way most estates never do.

Its 2025 to 2026 venue package costs R38,000 for about 100 guests and includes the reception venue, tables and chairs, crockery, cutlery and glassware, a ceremony in the garden gazebo, a pre-drinks area, a golf cart for bridal photos and the honeymoon suite with breakfast. Menus start from R600 per person, waiters are R500 each, and corkage is R60 a bottle if you bring your own wine. Linen is extra. If you'd rather hand over everything, the estate's all-inclusive package covers décor, DJ, photographer, cake and drinks for roughly R300,000 for 100 guests. The on-site lodge sleeps up to 100, so out-of-town guests can stay put and nobody drives after the speeches.

Small and good-value wedding venues in Stellenbosch

These three quote on enquiry, but they sit at the gentler end of the Stellenbosch scale and work beautifully for 30 to 120 guests.

Middelvlei Wine Estate

Middelvlei is on the slopes of Papegaaiberg, just 4km from the town centre, which matters when guests are staying in Stellenbosch itself. Weddings happen in the Wine Barn, a rustic, honest space for up to 120 guests. The estate is known for its Boerebraai restaurant, and that sets the tone. Expect South African food, estate wine and a relaxed, family-run feel rather than white-glove formality. It's a strong pick for couples who want a farm wedding close to town and would rather spend on the food than the chandeliers. Ask for a quote for your date.

Seven Sisters Vineyards

Seven Sisters is off Annandale Road at Lynedoch, in the quieter southern corner of Stellenbosch, with north-facing lawns looking over the Lynedoch hills. The reception venue takes 30 to 100 guests under exposed beams, with the dance floor right in the middle of the room. From September to March, ceremonies happen on the lawn. From April to August they move into the indoor gallery, which suits ceremonies of fewer than 50.

Food and drink are strictly in-house, sold as four packages that you can tweak. Essential and Classic cover a harvest table, welcome drink, main course and estate wine, while the Flames package brings a lamb spit braai buffet and Deluxe adds Cap Classique and a plated starter. Estimates come after a consultation and site visit. It suits a mid-sized, relaxed wedding where good food matters more than a famous name.

Le Pommier Wine Estate

Le Pommier sits on the Helshoogte Pass in the Banhoek Valley, at the foot of the Simonsberg, and the ceremony spot beside the pool looks straight at the mountain. It offers two sizes. Granny Smith, the rustic venue, seats 80 without a dance floor or 60 with one, which is ideal for a small wedding in Stellenbosch that still wants a party. The Vineyard Barn takes up to 150 and overlooks the vines.

The venue fee includes a honeymoon suite for the couple, and the country lodge has six suites, seven country rooms and two self-catering units for family. The restaurant does the catering, with plated menus like lamb shank and pork belly or a buffet of bobotie, chicken pie and roast meats. Prices change with the season, so ask for a quote. If you love the Banhoek valley but the big estates next door are out of reach, start here.

Wedding reception on a lawn in front of a whitewashed Cape Dutch manor house with mountains behind in the Stellenbosch winelands

Stellenbosch's big-name wedding estates

Now for the estates people mean when they search for the best wedding venues in Stellenbosch. They cost more, and here is what you get for it.

Lanzerac

Lanzerac is the classic. An oak-lined drive, a Cape Dutch manor house more than 300 years old and the Jonkershoek mountains rising behind it. The 2025 to 2026 brochure is refreshingly clear. Ceremony lawns cost R9,000 in venue hire (only if your reception is here too), with the Manor House lawns taking up to 250, the Oval lawns 150 and the Spa lawns 80. The air-conditioned Cellar Hall seats 140 with a dance floor and costs R60,000, which includes tables, linen, crockery, the bar set-up and waiters. A Bedouin tent wedding on the Manor Lawns for up to 250 is R95,000 in venue hire and a marquee wedding R105,000, with the tent or marquee itself, furniture and linen hired separately.

Here's the hidden gem for small weddings. Lanzerac offers an intimate option for 15 to 30 guests in the Private Dining Room or Cellar Foyer at R28,000 venue hire, with no dance floor. That's a genuine five-star setting for an elopement-sized group. Be aware that larger weddings come with room-booking requirements. Cellar Hall weddings must take the 23 rooms in Block 1 and the Courtyard, and Manor Lawn weddings must book all 54 rooms on the estate. Food and drinks are quoted separately.

Jordan Wine Estate

Jordan, at the top of the Stellenbosch Kloof, does something no one else here does. It hands you the whole estate from Friday at 16:00 to Sunday at 13:00. The weekend includes a pre-wedding dinner, the wedding itself, Sunday brunch, tastings and vineyard tours, with menus by chef Marthinus Ferreira and Jordan wines throughout.

Ceremonies can be on the Cellar Door deck for 30 to 50, in the Oak Room cellar for 40 to 60 or on the Water's Edge lawn for up to 150. Receptions are in a tent on the Protea Lawn for up to 150, or in the restaurant for up to 60. The luxury suites and villa sleep up to 40 sharing. Prices sit in the package brochure, on enquiry. It's not a budget option, but for a destination wedding where everyone stays for the weekend, it can make more sense than renting a venue and three guest houses separately.

ASARA Wine Estate & Hotel

ASARA is on Polkadraai Road with views across the Stellenbosch valley to the mountains, plus a hotel, an oak-barrel cellar and a proper events team. Unusually for a five-star estate, it publishes per-person packages. The entry Cape Fusion package is R1,455 per person from March to May 2026 and R1,495 from June to September 2026, with a minimum of 30 guests. That covers exclusive use of the ballroom, a glass of ASARA Cap Classique with canapés, a three-course menu, staff, Tiffany chairs, linen and a room for the couple on the wedding night. Drinks, the dance floor and the cake are extra, and a 15% service fee is added. The Bell Tower and Avalon packages add more courses and polish at a higher rate. It suits a 30 to 80 guest wedding that wants hotel-level service with a predictable bill.

Hazendal Wine Estate

Hazendal, on Bottelary Road, is heritage with a contemporary edge. The White Garden, designed by landscape architect Leon Kluge, has mature oaks, a tree-lined avenue and views of the Bottelary hills with the Simonsberg behind. It hosts ceremonies for up to 150, cocktail receptions for 120 and seated receptions for 80. The indoor Grand Hall seats 250, or 180 with a dance floor. There's a hotel and spa on the estate, and the White Garden package includes tables, chairs, crockery, glassware and waiters. Prices are on enquiry, and note that the estate is cashless.

Stellenbosch's Banhoek and Simonsberg side also has some of the Winelands' most celebrated venues, including Molenvliet, Zorgvliet, Quoin Rock and Alluvia. We cover those in our round-up of the top wedding venues in the Cape Winelands, so we haven't repeated them here.

Small relaxed winter wedding lunch beside a fireplace in a rustic farm venue in the Stellenbosch winelands

How to keep a Stellenbosch wedding affordable

Cheap wedding venues in Stellenbosch are mostly a matter of timing and format, not luck. These are the levers that move the number.

Go midweek, or go in winter

May to August is low season, and the gap is real. At Vredenheim, winter weekday hire runs close to R10,000 below the peak rate. Eikenhof's 2024 winter midweek rate of R18,000 was R8,000 below its peak weekend rate. Winter in Stellenbosch means rain and cold evenings, so choose a venue with a fireplace, heaters or a proper indoor ceremony option, and plan a long lunch rather than a late night.

Friday and Sunday weddings

Most venues that publish rates charge less for Fridays and Sundays than for Saturdays. A Sunday lunch wedding also cuts the bar bill, because people drink less when they're driving home that afternoon.

Trim the guest list, but watch the minimums

Per-person pricing rewards a smaller list, up to a point. Skilpadvlei, ASARA and others set guest minimums, and below them you pay for empty chairs. For fewer than 40 guests, look at rooms built for that size, like Le Pommier's Granny Smith venue, Seven Sisters' winter gallery or Lanzerac's 15 to 30 guest option.

Package or venue hire?

A per-person package (Skilpadvlei, ASARA) gives you a predictable total and fewer suppliers to manage. Venue hire plus catering (Vredenheim, Eikenhof, Devonvale) can work out cheaper if you're organised and already have a caterer or décor team you trust. Pure dry hire, where you bring everything, is rare in Stellenbosch, so don't count on it.

Know what's included before you compare

Two quotes R20,000 apart can end up the same once you add linen, chairs, staff, the ceremony set-up, corkage and the service fee. Ask every venue for a line-by-line quote, and use our list of questions to ask your wedding venue so nothing surprises you on the final invoice. Bring-your-own-drinks policies are where the biggest savings hide.

Before you book a Stellenbosch wedding venue

Harvest season and peak dates

February to April is harvest. The farms are at their most beautiful and their busiest, with tourists, trucks on the farm roads and peak pricing. The best Saturdays from October to April book out a year or more ahead.

The January and February heat

Stellenbosch sits in an enclosed valley, and summer afternoons regularly push past 30°C, sometimes well beyond. Schedule the ceremony for late afternoon, insist on shade for guests and ask whether the reception room is air-conditioned. Skilpadvlei, Eikenhof and Lanzerac's Cellar Hall all are.

Accommodation and transport

Stellenbosch is roughly 30 to 40 minutes from Cape Town International and around 50 minutes from the City Bowl. Book guest rooms early, because the town fills up with university events and tourists. For big groups, a farmhouse buyout like Kana Guest Farm on the R304, which sleeps 65 across five houses, can house the whole wedding party near the venue. Arrange a shuttle for the evening. Farm roads are dark, and nobody should drive after a wine-estate reception.

Backup power

Load-shedding has been quiet lately, but ask every venue what happens if the power goes. Skilpadvlei, Vredenheim and Eikenhof all list backup generators. Ask whether the generator runs the kitchen and the band, not only the lights.

Minimum spends and guest minimums

Many wine farms set a minimum spend or minimum guest count, especially on peak Saturdays, and some, like Lanzerac, tie larger weddings to room bookings. Get these conditions in writing before you pay a deposit, along with the cancellation terms.
