Stay one step ahead of any wedding day mishap by packing an emergency wedding day kit with items that you think you may need. Make sure it’s close at hand throughout your ceremony and reception, and you’re sure to avoid any major catastrophes.
- Band-Aids Nobody likes to think that they will be injured on their wedding day, but accidents do happen, so always be prepared. A drop of blood on your white wedding dress could be disastrous.
- Bottle of water Staying hydrated is of the utmost importance, you need to keep a bottle of water with you at all times. Don’t forget the straws so that you can stay hydrated without messing up your lipstick and make-up.
- Breath mints/spray Keep them close for the big moment, when your union is sealed with a magical kiss. There will be lots of hugging and kissing during the course of the day, so you are going to need them when friends and family congratulate you on your marriage. Try to avoid chewing gum; it’s not a classy look.
- Cash You never know, you might want to buy a snack or a drink on the way to or at the venue, whatever the reason, cash is good to have in any situation.
- Cell phone Just in case you need to contact any service providers for any last minute changes or problems. Make sure to have all the numbers you need programmed into the phone.
- Chalk This will temporarily cover up any last minute smudges or smears on your wedding dress.
- Clear nail polish Will prevent your stockings from running should you snag them at any point. If time allows you can always change into a spare pair, depending on how big the run is.
- Comb/brush For keeping your lovely locks looking fresh, gorgeous and tangle free.
- Dental floss/toothpicks Dental hygiene is key when showing those pearly whites to everyone. Spinach in the teeth will not be good for your wedding photos.
- Extra earring backs You don’t want to be crawling on the floor in your wedding dress, frantically looking for the butterfly for the back of your earring minutes before you are due to walk down the aisle.
- Extra panty hose / Stockings When purchasing your matching stockings, knee high’s or thigh high’s, buy at least two pairs. Three pairs, if you are planning on having a full dress fitting before the wedding.
- Eye drops Whether it’s sleep deprivation, tears or dust, whatever the reason for the red eyes, always have your eye drops handy
- Hair spray For keeping your lovely locks in place.
- Hair pins You will be pulling hundreds of pins out of your hair at the end of the day, but should a strand of hair come loose during the course of the day, you will be happy that you thought of bringing extra hair pins for that ‘just in case’ moment.
- Headache pills After all it’s a long day and you don’t want a headache to be the cause of not being able to enjoy your wedding celebrations.
- Mini sewing kit, safety pins, hem tape and scissors If MacGyver was a woman, he would carry one of these kits on him.
- Make-up Bag Make sure to include, Lipstick, lip gloss, mascara, face powder or base, compact mirror, nail polish, nail file and perfume. Make sure that the make-up is all in the shade you’re wearing on the day.
- Scotch tape and Prestik For all those bits and pieces that won’t stay put or a last minute ‘fixit’ job on your table décor, scotch tape and prestik are perfect wedding day kit accessories.
- Sedatives Yes ‘losing the plot’ on your wedding day does sometimes happen; it’s a very stressful time. Be careful that you are familiar with the effects and strength of the medication, zombie bride is definitely not a good look.
- Straightening Hair Iron / Curling tongs Perfect for quick touch-ups, should you decide on a down style.
- Tampons/sanitary towels It would be very unfortunate if this item is needed on your wedding day, but rather be with them, than without.
- Tissues Emotions will be running high on the day, keep a few tissues tucked away somewhere safe, as you will probably need them at some point.
- Tweezers For that stray hair that nobody picked up during your last pre-wedding visit to the salon, zap it quickly and efficiently with a good pair of tweezers.
- Wet wipes or cleansing wipes Sticky fingers, smudged make-up, thrills and spills, will all be taken care of, with these handy extras.
Optional Items
- Some snack bars or other easy-to-carry snacks.
- Super Glue for all your nail fixes, shoe heel fixes, decorations and jewellery
- Sun block is recommended before any of your make-up is applied, especially if you are having an outdoor wedding
- Extra camera for taking the “getting dressed” pre wedding shots
- list of wedding vendor phone numbers, make sure you carry a charged cell phone as well, just in case
- Watch or clock, to make sure time doesn’t run way with you, traditionally the bride is encouraged to be a little late, but only a little.
Our Top Tip
Pack all your emergency items into categorised Ziploc clear bags. Put all the make-up or beauty related items in one bag, clothing items in another, personal care in another etc. This extra step saves you having to dig around for a specific item when time is of the essence.
