So you’ve got the wedding dress and accessories and hair and makeup, errm, nailed. Don’t forget to give your lovely hands the attention they deserve – after all, they’ll be showcasing those new rings that everyone will want to take a look at, missus! Here are nine key wedding nails trends we’ve selected from social media site, Pinterest. Take your pick!
Blushing Bride
The look: Elegant and understated
Perfect for: The sweet and sexy
French Manicure – perennial favourite of brides everywhere, the French manicure suits every skin tone. Best of all, it’s a look that doesn’t date – your nails will look every bit as well-groomed and wonderful when you haul out the wedding photos in years to come as they did on your big day.

Nude - unfussy and uncomplicated, neutral nail colours compliment or enhance our natural nails. And, what’s more, the ‘barely there’ neutral nail is making waves (after some time away) in the fashion world. It’s crucial to select the right nude shade for your skin tone. Rule of thumb: the darker your skin, the deeper the nude. Fair skins carry off pale pinks beautifully; olive skins suit creamy peaches; dark skins should go for caramel-coloured nudes.

Neutral – Stronger than the nudes, but still demure and swish, neutral colours include greys, beiges, ‘greige’, taupes and cocoa browns. These colours are very flattering, making your hands look younger and your fingers longer – all the better for flashing that ring! Neutrals work best in a high-shine finish.

Bold Bride
The look: Stylish and sophisticated
Perfect for: The modish and voguish
Red – Nothing says Old Hollywood Glamour like red nails! It’s also a timeless classic, so you won’t fear looking back on those photos in a decade’s time. Like red lipstick, red nail polish must be matched to your skin tone – the darker your skin, the brighter the red you can pull off. Deep, berry reds work well on dark skins, classic reds on olive skins and orange reds on fairer skins.

Black – Once the preserve of gothic chicks, black nail polish has become the go-to colour for classy fashionistas. Now, well-heeled brides are embracing this daring but striking nail trend. Black nail polish comes in matte and gloss finishes – combine both and be très chic!

Rouge-Noir – Popularised by Uma Thurman in the movie Pulp Fiction, the blood red colour known as rouge-noir (French for red-black) has now firmly established itself as an iconic nail colour. Vampy and oh-so-swanky!

Bling Bride
The look: Glitzy and Glam
Perfect for: The ritzy or girly
Lace – Lace nail art is trending for brides and it’s easy to see why - it compliments vintage-inspired wedding dresses beautifully. This technique works best with a French manicure or nude nails.

Glitter – Add a little sparkle to your big day with glitter nails. Try nude or pastel nails with gradient glitter tips or bases, or do a glitter overlay on just one or two nails on each hand (the rest of the nails in plain colour).

Diamonds and pearls – For all-out wedding day bling, get some ice on those nails! For the loaded, only real diamonds or pearls will do; Swarovski crystals are a good substitute for those with a little cash to burn; for the rest of us, rhinestones. Whichever way, do remember less is more – a discreet jewel dotted here and there to catch the light will do, or you’ll end up more rap queen than princess bride.
